The fastest pickup trucks in the world. Loaded and blowing: American pickups that make sports cars blush

In the minds of most drivers, a pickup truck is a practical but slow truck that is suitable for transporting things, working, going on a picnic, and in general for anything but driving fast. However, not all members of the pickup family are focused exclusively on convenience and functionality. Some of these trucks can be driven like a breeze. Our selection today includes the fastest production pickups in the world.

Despite its release date, this pickup truck is very powerful, even by modern standards. Powered by a 4.3-liter turbocharged engine, the Syclone easily accelerates to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds.

Under the hood of the Tundra TRD is a 5.7 liter V8 engine producing 381 hp. and a maximum torque of 550 Nm. As a result, the car reaches 60 miles in 4.7 seconds.

The Dodge Ram pickup truck not only has a brutal design, but can also go very fast. The 0-60 mph time is 4.9 seconds. In addition, the SRT10 has a loud and aggressive engine sound.

The turbocharged V8 engine in the SVT Lighting is capable of producing 380 hp. and an impressive 450 Nm of torque. The pickup accelerates to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Despite the controversial design, there is a lot to respect about this car. The 5.3-liter V8 engine produces 300 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque and can reach 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds, which is excellent for a truck.

The 2015 Ford F-150 features a majority of the body made from aluminum, which significantly reduces the vehicle's weight. Combined with the 3.5-liter V6 engine, this has a major impact on the truck's performance, with it hitting 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

The new Silverado 1500 is equipped with a 6.2-liter engine producing 420 hp. The car is capable of accelerating to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

Next year's Ford Raptor has a very impressive design, and it will also be quite fast for a pickup truck: the company promises a acceleration to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The new Tundra does not have such impressive dynamics as its predecessor, but it is also is quite a worthy example. V8 engine with a volume of 5.7 liters and a power of 381 hp. and 401 Nm of torque effortlessly propel the car to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.

This old car has a very good 345 hp engine for its time, capable of producing 380 Nm of torque and allowing it to reach 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

Below is a list of the 12 fastest and most torquey pickup trucks ever released. We looked through several test databases and rated each truck on its 0-60 mph performance. If several trucks had the same 0-100 km/h time, they were evaluated according to an alien American standard - a quarter mile (0.4 km) time and the maximum speed shown. Although each of these hard workers has different specializations, they are all excellent examples of engineering work and are suitable for more than just hauling manure in Oklahoma.

2019 RAM 1500 LARAMIE 4X4

The list opens with a special version of the Ram Laramie 1500, which reached 0-100 km/h within 6.1 seconds, and the quarter mile (402 m) is completed in 14.7 seconds with exit speed 150.8 km/h. It's all thanks to the truck's 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. He gives 395 hp and 555.9 N m of torque and is paired with an eight-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission.

2017 FORD F-150 PLATINUM 4X4 ECOBOOST

Don’t rush to make a face when you read the word “ecoboost”. The Ford F-150 Platinum truck matches 0-60 and quarter mile performance, but the top speed is slightly higher, on par 152,89 km/h Under the hood is a twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 from Ford, which produces 375 hp. with torque 637.24 N m(13.56 Nm more than GM's 6.2-liter V-8). The automatic transmission's close gear ratios and shift speed also contribute to such dynamics.

2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED 4X4

The first model year of the second-generation Tundra is absolutely killing RAM, F-150 and every new Tundra out there. Toyota 381 The powerful 5.7-liter V-8, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, propelled the Tundra to 60 mph. 6 seconds, the pickup covered a quarter of a mile in 14,7 seconds at maximum speed 151.12 km/h.

2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HIGH COUNTRY

It's no surprise that GM's 6.2-liter V-8 made the list. Amazing Eight Gives Back 420 hp. And 623.68 N m, acceleration to hundreds was 6.0 seconds the quarter-mile segment gave a result of 14.6 seconds at 155.46 km/h and that's with the old six-speed automatic transmission. GM just unveiled the next version of the Silverado and GMC Sierra, featuring an updated 6.2-liter engine and a new 10-speed automatic transmission that have not yet been tested.

2003 FORD F-150 HARLEY DAVIDSON

Despite being 15 years old, the striking version of the Ford F-150 Harley Davidson also reaches 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, but beats all of the above trucks in the quarter mile with 14.3 seconds at 154.98 km/h. The rear-wheel drive truck features a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that pumps out 340 hp, 576.22 N m and is equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission.

2014 FORD F-150 FX4 TREMOR

Tremor graced dealer windows with its presence for only one year and was the first on the list to break the six-second mark with a result 5.8 seconds. The twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 in the single cab version delivers 365 hp and 569.44 N m(6-automatic transmission), which allowed him to cover a quarter mile in 14.3 seconds with an indicator 151.92 km/h.

2016 GMC SIERRA DENALI 4X4

A version of the same 6.2-liter V-8 as the Silverado above but with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Sierra Denali shot to 60 mph a little faster. From 0 to 100 km/h he reached 5.8 seconds, and completed the quarter mile in 14.2 seconds at speed 156.27 km/h.

2009 Dodge Ram R/T

Back when RAM was part of the Dodge brand, the R/T sport truck was one of the fastest pickups in the segment. In the single cab version it was equipped 390 hp 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with torque 551.82 N m. Even with a five-speed automatic transmission, the old R/T hit a hundred in 5.7 seconds, the quarter-mile segment was completed in 14.4 seconds at a speed 150.31 km/h.

2017 FORD F-150 RAPTOR (SUPERCAB)

It may weigh two and a half tons, but the 2017 Raptor SUV still reaches 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and is first on the list to break the 14-second quarter-mile mark with a time of 13.9 seconds 156.59 km/h. Its twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 hides powerful 450 hp, 691.47 N m and is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford announced this engine as an option for the 2019 F-150 Limited, so you can bet the same engine will make the list next year.

2004 FORD F-150 SVT LIGHTNING

Our bronze medalist is the fastest Ford truck we've ever heard of and the first on the list to hit the 164.15 km/h mark in the ¼ mile in 13.6 seconds. Under the hood is a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with 380 hp and 610.12 N m which sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed hydro-mechanical automatic and accelerates the Lightning to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10

Probably the craziest production racing truck ever built. With the Viper Ram engine, the SRT-10 easily accelerates to hundreds in 4.9 seconds and swallows the quarter mile in 13.2 seconds. The engine in this special Ram is a huge 8.3-liter V-10 that dumps 500 hp and 711.81 N m torque. Do you think this is his best feature? The truck was available with the same 6-speed manual transmission found on the Viper. Just as compelling as the RAM SRT-10, there's another truck that goes even faster. However, the SRT-10's quarter-mile speed of 172.36 km/h remains the fastest on the list.

2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA TRD SUPERCHARGED

Even though it's been 10 years, the Tundra TRD Supercharged Sport Truck is still the most capable pickup truck money can buy. Parts from Toyota's TRD division, including the supercharger, did not void the new Tundra's warranty and could be ordered and installed from an authorized dealer. From 0-100 km/h the pickup accelerated in 4.4 seconds, and ¼ mile flew in 13.0 seconds at speed 171.07 km/h. Tundra easily takes the crown in this championship. The charged 5.7-liter V-8 produced colossal 504 hp and 745.70 N m, working in tandem with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet 454 SS

Chevrolet Silverado SS

Years: 1990-1993/2002-2007

In the history of Chevrolet, the letters SS (Super Sport) were not only worn by cars like the Impala sedan or Camaro sports coupe. In 1990, a pickup truck joined this family: the new model was called the 454 SS (top photo), where the numbers indicated the engine in cubic inches. And they didn’t skimp on the engine, stuffing a huge 7.4 liter V8 under the hood! It was also installed on the Suburban SUV, where it produced up to 290 hp. But the pickup truck only got 230 hp. Although the rear-wheel drive 454 SS was produced only with a 2-door cab and a short bed, so the engine was not strained. And a year later they added another 25 hp. The Chevrolet 454 SS turned out to be successful: almost 17,000 units were sold in the United States in 4 years. The most spectacular were the pickup trucks of the first years of production: they themselves were black, and the interior had a foppish red plush.

Chevrolet Silverado SS

In 2003, the 454 SS received a successor - the Silverado SS. The V8 engine was thinner (“only” 6 liters of volume), but it produced 345 “horses” and provided acceleration to 100 km/h in about 7 seconds. Moreover, the whole family could “have fun” in the Silverado SS: unlike the 454 SS, it was available with both a short and an extended cab. And it could drive not only on asphalt: in addition to rear-wheel drive, an all-wheel drive transmission was also offered.

Dodge Ram SRT-10

Years: 2004-2006

At one time, it was the gasoline V10 from Dodge pickups that became the basis for the engine of the Viper supercar. And at some point the process went in the opposite direction. Thus, at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show, the Dodge Ram VTS concept with a 415-horsepower engine from the Viper GTS was shown. But Dodge did not calm down. And already in 2002, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was introduced, which was destined to hit the production line. It was based on the serial Ram 1500, into which they shoved the Viper V10 with a volume of 8.3 liters and a return of 507 “forces” and 712 Nm!

The Dodge Ram SRT-10, despite all its exoticism, was not produced in such a small quantity: over three years of production, almost 10,000 of these pickups were riveted at a plant in Mexico. They are also found in Russia, although how can such a vehicle (especially a two-door one) drive on our roads in winter without 2-3 bags of cement in the back...

The mixture turned out to be hellish. Indeed, despite the lowered sports suspension, stronger brakes and wider tires, the Ram SRT-10 remained a frame truck with a high center of gravity and a continuous rear drive axle. And the short version with a single cabin and a 6-speed manual transmission had the most vigorous character. She drove to “hundreds” in about 5 seconds, accelerated to 248 km/h and in 2004 was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest production pickup truck in the world! The 4-door cab version with the 4-speed automatic from the diesel Ram was about a second slower. And quieter when taxiing due to a longer wheelbase

Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

Years: 1993-1995/1999-2004

Ford began producing “charged” pickup trucks long before the appearance of the famous off-road “Raptor”, which we have already talked about. So enough of his glory: this time we will remember the half-forgotten “Lightning” - pickups in the Lightning modification from Ford’s SVT sports department. The first of them (top photo) “shone” in 1992, based on the ninth generation F-150, which received a modified V8 (5.8 liters, 240 hp), a reinforced frame and transmission, as well as different wheels and a reconfigured pendant. This SVT Lightning was designed to compete with similar models from Chevrolet and managed to be released in a circulation of 11,563 units.

Ford SVT F-150 Lightning of the second generation, of which more than 28,000 were produced. By the way, it was precisely this red Lightning that Paul Walker drove in the very first part of The Fast and the Furious.

The most powerful SVT F-150 Lightning, based on the tenth generation F-150, was introduced in the late 90s. Ford installed a mechanical compressor on the standard 5.4-liter Triton V8 engine, using it to increase the output first to 365 and then to 380 hp. and 610 Nm of torque. The drive was rear-wheel drive, the gearbox was automatic. The brakes were strengthened, the suspension was made stiffer and lower, and the 18-inch wheels were shod with special 295/45 tires. The Ford SVT Lightning spent only 5.2 seconds accelerating to the usual American speed of 96 km/h. And it could not only burn tires, but even carry loads: at the end of its career, its carrying capacity was increased to 610 kg.

Years: 1991-1992

The GMC division, part of General Motors, also managed to become famous in the 90s for its “charged” pickup truck with the eloquent name Syclone (consonant with cyclone, that is, “cyclone”). Unlike the full-size big Chevrolets, built on the basis of the mid-size Sonoma model (aka Chevrolet S-10), the Syclone was considered the fastest production truck in the world at the time of its release. The overseas press compared the Syclone with sports cars, and Car&Driver magazine even pitted this pickup truck against a Ferrari in its tests! Where did such agility come from?

In 1991, 2995 Cyclones were produced, in 1992 - 3 more. A little more than a hundred cars were exported - for example, pickup trucks for the Emirates had metric instruments and a resonator instead of a catalyst. By the way, GMS Syclone became the first production pickup truck with 4-channel ABS.

And it was taken from a 4.3 liter petrol V6. The same was installed on the regular production Sonoma, but for the Cyclone they installed a Mitsubishi turbocharger with an intercooler and a throttle block from a 5.7-liter V8 engine on the naturally aspirated engine, installed new pistons, a fuel system, an exhaust tract - and squeezed it out of the engine 280 hp and 475 Nm. Plus a 4-speed automatic transmission, a modified chassis and all-wheel drive, which divided the traction between the axles in a ratio of 35:65. And as a result, the Syclone “bulleted” up to 100 km/h in about 5.5 seconds. It is not surprising that Cyclones were used as pace cars at the Indy 500 and even as

Old American hard workers. They began to be produced in the States in ancient times and gradually gained popularity around the world as an exotic, but extremely honest means of transportation, transporting goods and moving trailers.

In other respects, they still have at least one highlight. This is a rather rare, but special tribe among pickup trucks, let's call them sports trucks. Or simply top-end versions with the most powerful engines in the engine range. The demand for it is not great, but it is stable and this detachment in the flora and fauna of automobile culture has long established itself as its special representative.

Today we would like to present to you the Top 10 fastest pickup trucks that American manufacturers have released at the moment. So, without further delay, here are the 10 fastest pickup trucks in the world, ranked according to their 0-60 mph time.

10. 1978-’79 Dodge L’il Red Express

In the late 70s, the feds seriously cut into the capabilities of muscle car developers, it turned out that this cannot be done, there is no need to do that, etc.

But most of the strict new laws affected passenger cars, which was the beginning of an interesting experiment at Chrysler. It was this automaker who found the loophole and immediately took advantage of it. Make a sports pickup truck, not a passenger coupe.

The pickup model was introduced in 1978 as Mopar’s “Adult Toys” (such names were common in America in the 70s). The Li'l Red Express was an athlete and a blast in the flesh - vertical sides, bright gold accents along the sides, oak liner in the trunk and a 360 V8 that could teleport the car from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and overcome ¼ mile in 14.7 seconds.

It was a wildly fast racing car for those times, easily beating not only muscle cars, but competing on a straight line on equal terms with such mastodons as the Porsche 928, 911 and Ferrari 308.

9. Chevrolet Silverado SS

Chevrolet must have been inspired by racing when it began building its Super Sport pickup in the mid-2000s, which became the spiritual successor to the 454 SS model from the previous decade.

This car was truly fast and could cover the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds, while reaching 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds.

The Silverado SS uses a motor for these purposes that generates 345 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque. Quite a powerful engine, but not powerful enough to outperform many of its competitors in terms of dynamics.

8. Toyota Tacoma X-Runner

The Toyota pickup truck, which is very popular in the States, has a fairly extensive list of different trim levels and options, but in 2004, the fastest of them was the X-Runner variation.

The big downside to this model is that it is scheduled to be discontinued this year. Fans of fast pickup trucks will probably wipe away a stingy tear running down their cheek on this line.

But how fast is he? The X-Runner accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in exactly 6 seconds. The regular Tacoma is a second or so slower, which is otherwise a very good result.

For a good sprint, the big pickup has only 236 hp. and 4.0 V6 under the hood.

7. Ford F-150 Tremor

Ford Tremor...well, American sales people sometimes come up with names for their models.

The time has come for the 2010-2014 Raptor, which made Ford pickups synonymous with the word “off-road,” but Ford has never managed to break out of its role as a road worker. Therefore, it was decided to go on the offensive on several fronts and make a very fast road version of the branded F-150 pickup truck.

Thus, three years ago, Tremor was born and shook up the American SUV industry.

From zero to 100 km per hour in 5.8 seconds and all this is due to the 365 horsepower, 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood.

Many will be surprised that this SUV accelerates faster than the SUV, but in fact, the lighter weight of the road F-150, by about 453 kg (!), plays a significant role in this.

6. 2015 Chevrolet 1500 High Country

The Chevy Silverado is proof of how pickup trucks have come over the past few years.

Meet on the list one of the most beautiful SUVs in its class, which can handle not only large loads, but also fast starts. 5.7 seconds to 100 km/h, an excellent result for such a hulk. And 420 hp help with this. and 623 Nm of torque.

5. 2015 Ford F-150 3.5 EcoBoost

Chevrolet in 2015 may have tried to outperform the new F-150 with an aluminum body and prove that the material is not the issue, but alas, it didn’t work out; it turned out to be more agile, probably because it was lighter, by as much as 317 kg, of its previous reincarnation of the F-150.

A 365 horsepower engine is enough for such a guy, especially if we are talking about a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. High torque, like a larger V8, allows Ford to reach 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

4. Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

Here was a name that was so popular and Ford had to give it a second chance. When the second-generation F-150 SVT Lightning hit the streets, it could do 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed approaching 250 mph. Sixteen years ago, this was enough to earn the title of the fastest production truck in the world and also have time to lose it. It’s not for nothing that the word “lightning” appears in the name of this Ford.

3. GMC Syclone

Probably, just by looking at this car we can say that we have a legend in front of us. And when you find out its characteristics and dynamic capabilities, you’ll want to clap your hands! According to various measurements, the dynamics of this eccentric “brick” is somewhere between 4.6 and 5.3 seconds.

Please note that these numbers were shown by a pickup truck in 1991! At that time, the dynamics were quite comparable to those in their best trim levels, and he gave these goldfinches a light on the track!

Even Jeremy Clarkson was impressed by Syclone when he ran it on an episode of Top Gear back in 1991.

2. Ram SRT10

The crown of the fastest production pickup truck on Earth is a heavy burden and easy to lose. The developers of the Ford SVT Lightning know this firsthand when they lost one place on the list “thanks to” the Ram SRT10, a really fast and powerful pickup truck from the USA.
